An Albuquerque Brow Lift is designed to reduce the wrinkles of the forehead and between the brows and to raise the position of the brows. This “opens” the eye area and results in a much more alert and pleasant appearance. This procedure is often combined with blepharoplasty and/or facelift.

Essentially there are two reasons for brow lift: 1. to lift brow position and to open up the eye area, and 2. to weaken the muscles that cause squint and frown lines. The full brow lift is usually done under sedation in the operating room, whereas the limited (mini) brow lift can be done in the office under local anesthesia. The incision is usually at or within the hair line. The design of the incision is in part determined by the height of the forehead.

Recovery: The bruising usually occurs at the eyelids and can last about 7-10 days. I recommend a cold pack on the eyes for the first 24 hours and then a warm compress starting the second day to facilitate resolution of bruising. Do not do vigorous exercise, lift, or strain in the first week to avoid bleeding from the surgical sites. Make sure to consume adequate fluids and use a stool softener to avoid constipation, which can occur with use of pain medication.
