There is nothing more attractive than a set of beautiful eyes and eyelid surgery can achieve the goal. When you look at a person, you see her eyes first. Unfortunately, due to the constant motion and extremely thin skin, our eyes also age a lot faster than then rest of the face. On top of that, some people also have hereditary puffiness or dark circles around the lids. No wonder the cosmetic counters are full of eyelid creams. Unfortunately, many do not work. When considering Albuquerque eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty), let an expert answer some questions.
Upper blepharoplasty, or upper eyelid surgery, is the removal of excess skin, muscle (orbicularis oculi) and fat of upper eyelid. The reason that muscle is often removed together with overlying skin is that the two layers are intimately adhered together. Excess fat pad can give the upper eyelid the “heavy” look. After the resection, the skin edges are closed together. I use subcuticular closer to avoid suture mark. The skin generally heals exceptionally well. Obviously we do not want to over-resect the lid skin, which can lead to the cornea dryness and abrasion. Over all, upper blepharoplasty give you the appearance that the eyes are more wide-open.
Lower blepharoplasty, or lower eyelid surgery, also removes excess skin and eyelid muscle, as well as lower eyelid fat pads. There are three fat pads and all need to be examined and resected as necessary. There are two wars in approaching the lower eyelid surgery: transconjunctival (through inside of the eyelid) and subciliary (from outside just under the lower lashes). I prefer subciliary approach since it gives me the ability to remove excess skin. The final results is that it takes away the tired look from your eyes.
I do blepharoplasty either under local anesthesia or sedation, either in our Albuquerque office or in a surgery center. The recovery is about 7 to 10 days for the bruising to subside. Patient satisfaction rate is very high. I definitely recommend eyelid surgery as the first facial surgery for those who are good candidates.
